Dee-Lerious~Esther

Until the Race is Won!
By Elton Smith and Larry Holder
Lyrics and Acknowledgments

Well, my mother-in-law has come up with a new nick name for me...it is "Esther". I am not quite sure how or why..we were discussing the problems Jeff and I are having with his daughter the other day and she asked me something about Esther in the Bible. She said "I am not sure why...but Esther keeps coming to my mind"...so I found myself telling her the whole story of the book of Esther.

It is one of 2 books of the Bible named after a woman. It has no direct mention of God. But, His favor for Esther and her people and her being here "for such a time as this" is evident. She was an orphan. She was being raised by her Uncle. When the King "put away" Vashti for not coming to his party so he could show off his "beautiful possession" he sent his men out to find him another beauty.

Enter Esther. She is brought in to be "groomed" for the King along with many others. She immediately finds "favor" with the groomer. Sounds like we're talking horses here. But the women had to be groomed for 12 months before going in before the King!!! My luck, I'd get a big zit the night before my appointment with the King. Right between the eyes...Mount Everest right between my eyes...and yes, I'm sure I'd make a "memorable" impression...but not one to write home about!

But Esther, wins favor with the people around her and with God. What a special young woman. What a good job the Uncle must be doing raising her alone. Yes, she is a Jew. Yes, her Uncle has to remind her that she may perish if her race is found out also...even tho' she is in the Palace as Queen. So, she calls the people to fast and pray. Saying she will do the same. Me? Yes, I do fast and pray. But the house has to be empty of peanut m&m's before I start. I have fasted and prayed for lots of things thru the years...but never a whole nation of people...never went in in front of someone knowing they could take my head; if they so desired.

What is so important about fasting and praying? I can't give you a one line answer...there's been books written on the subject. But Esther proves that as one of God's children...even when it looks the darkest if we walk in fasting and prayer we can come out on top...the enemy who seeks to destroy us will hang himself on the gallows he so cunningly built with us in mind.

Life as a Christian is not easy. It is a constant choice. But what Christ did for us was not easy either. Salvation is free. But it was not cheap. So, the next time you think you've got it bad...think of Esther. Think of Jesus. And skip a meal and pray...then listen to see what "He" has to say about your situation.

God Bless, Dee
